About Mantrasadhana

Every Spiritual aspirant should practice mantra sadhana at the beginning of each day. Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, Gayatri Mantra and Durga Mantra are the three mantras to be chanted every morning before getting out of bed and becoming involved in the normal, daily routine. Why? When we sleep at night, the mind becomes tranquil and passive, like the surface of a still lake, undisturbed by any agitation or movement. When we wake up in the morning, the mind is relaxed, the senses are at peace and there are no mental, emotional or intellectual distractions. Therefore, the first impression the mind should receive in the morning is mantra.


If we read the newspapers, listen to the radio or watch TV first thing in the morning, we imbibe impressions about scandals, problems and difficulties. This creates agitation and brings out the negative tendencies and vrittis of the mind, which remains tense and disturbed throughout the day. It is like throwing a rock in to still water and creating ripples.

When the mind is quite and peaceful, sensitive and receptive, positive seeds can be planted in the subconscious. The Mahamrityunjaya, Gayatri and Durga mantras are sankalpas, or resolutions, for physical health and mental well-being, for wisdom and inner clarity, and for overcoming distress in life. By making mantra sadhana the first activity of the day, you will derive courage, inner strength and peace. Your association and relationships will improve. You will grow and find your balance. You will be in control of your life and mind.

For mantra sadhana, no preparation is necessary. By practicing the three mantras in the morning, before getting out of bed or going to the bathroom, You are transcending your conditioned nature. We impose too much discipline and too many expectations on ourselves. God will see the purity of your heart and the strength of your faith and conviction. Begin the day in this way.

Morning Mantra Sadhana

When you wake up in the morning -

  • Focus at the eyebrow centre. Inhale and exhale deeply seven times. Relax with each exhalation. See the entrie body mentally.
  • Chant OM three times, concentrating on the vibration. Feel as if it is creating an energy field around the body.
  • Take seven more deep breaths in and out, and relax.
  • Make a sankalpa for physical health and mental well - being, and chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra 11 times.
  • Make a sankalpa for wisdom, inner clarity and intuitive knowledge, and chant the Gayatri Mantra 11 times.
  • Make a sankalpa for overcoming and removing distress from life, and chant the Durga Mantra 3 times.
  • Take seven deep breaths in and out, and relax.

Now you may begin your daily routine.
